Foyle College's PTFA welcomed parents and guardians to an informative presentation from Mary McLaughlin, a NEXUS representative, who presented an alarming account of the dangers associated with sexting, cyber relationships and online grooming.
Mary delivered real life examples of children and adolescents who were, often innocently, endangered as a result of their online activity. Her advice is that parents should always friend request their children on social media sites, monitoring their online activity and communication. The message for all young people using the Internet is simply: "Online communication should always be suitable dialogue for the family table if you are surfing safely."
A sincere thank you to NEXUS for their informative presentation, one that will be delivered to our Post-16 pupils in the coming weeks.
NEXUS' office is situated on Clarendon Street, where they offer additional guidance and support to members of the community.
Congratulations to Debbie Hawthorne 8C & Sophie Young 11D for winning the Hairspray poster competition.
