http://www.nuffieldresearchplacements.org/There are opportunities for their students to obtain placements and potential financial support in the form of bursary.Placements are available across the UK, in universities, commercial companies, voluntary organisations and research institutions.Nuffield Research Placements are administered at a regional level by a network of Nuffield coordinators.

We particularly encourage students who don't have a family history of going to university or who attend schools in less well-off areas. We make sure no-one is excluded on a financial basis by covering students' travel costs. Some students may also be eligible for a weekly bursary in addition to travel expenses. Your regional coordinator will be able to advise on eligibility.

Science focus week in the junior school offered a wide selection of workshops, visits and shows to the Yr8 pupils and proved to be very popular- with a focus to enthuse our pupils outside the confines of the classroom and demonstrate the relevance of science to local industries pupils had the opportunity to engage in a fun chemistry workshop, visit the Loughs Agency, have a site tour of Invista discovering just how stretchy Lycra is and even had a visit from a rocket scientist, Ash McFadden from Greencastle Planetarium.

A rat dissection, rocket making workshop and some sports science in the gym also were on offer. 'Science 4 You' presented their science 'dragon' show on Wednesday to all Yr8 engaging introducing aspects of engineering, biology, chemistry and physics during the show.

Lego Family Stem Night

Our first ever Family STEM night proved to be a great success with a  great turn out of Yr8 and Yr9 families.

The educational part of the evening was not lost with an emphasis on STEM related career opportunities  locally and the significance of subject choices as students progress through school being highlighted.

That said,  I have never experienced so much fun with lego in one room amongst both adults and pupils with a competitive streak amongst families at the fore! Our thanks to STEM Aware for hosting the event.

PSNI Road Safety

Stuart Crutchley, PSNI Road Safety branch, delivered a presentation to our Year 13 pupils outlining the importance of driving safely.A combination of videos, facts related to careless driving, firsthand accounts of accidents and hard hitting questions helped to provide Year 13 with practical advice for their future driving.

A startling message to all of our young drivers is that 95+% of crashes where someone is killed or seriously injured are due to human error.Sincere thanks to Stuart for facilitating this extremely beneficial presentation
