Welcome to The French Department

At Foyle College, we believe that in order to be fully prepared to meet the demands of our ever changing world it is imperative to be able to communicate in a second language.   French is spoken in over 60 countries around the world and is in high-demand for potential employers – as 1 out of every 5 UK companies and 74% of employers are looking for school-leavers with language skills.

Key Stage 3 students will see their language skills challenged as they see their languages skills grow from general greetings and family life in Year 8 to the Francophone world and past and future holidays in Year 10.  As language teachers, we strive to make language relevant to our pupils both inside and outside of the classroom, with Language’s Club, regular competitions against other schools and proposed school trips proving to be fun and engaging motivational factors for our students.

GCSE will see students delve deeper into the structures of the language itself and will study
