Citizenship Foundation Bar Mock Trial

A team of fifteen year 12 and 13 pupils took part in the Citizenship Foundation Bar Mock Trial competition on Saturday 22nd November in the High Courts in Belfast.  This is a prestigious competition and sixteen schools from around Northern Ireland took part.  We were very grateful to receive support in our preparations, from our barrister mentor, Mr Ciaran Roddy.
Foyle faced stiff opposition from Coleraine High School, Victoria College and Our Lady and St. Patrick’s College in their three rounds.  Foyle won two out of three of their cases and were very evenly matched against Coleraine High School who ended up progressing to the final.
The team are to be commended for their hard work and dedication in preparing both cases to such a high standard.  As all of the pupils in the team will still be with us next year, and are now experienced in the competition, the future looks bright for Bar Mock in Foyle College!
Well done everyone!

Public Speaking

Congratulations to Blake Gray, Adriana Chiquito and Jenny Boanca who represented Foyle College at the 'Language Through Our Faith' Public Speaking competition at Thornhill College on Thursday, 24th November 2014.

Their topic was '1000 friends on Facebook, but is digital friendship real friendship?', and they approached it with enthusiasm, dedication and strong opinions! They received glowing feedback from the adjudicator and very narrowly missed out on first place to St Columb's College.

Their dedication is to be commended and they were applauded as great ambassadors for our College.

Local Democracy Week 2014

Local Democracy Week is an annual European-wide campaign that aims, on a national level, to raise young people’s awareness of how local Councils operate. It informs them about opportunities for taking part in local decision-making and, as a result, draws attention to how their involvement in local affairs is crucial in upholding local democracy. This year, Local Democracy Week takes place from 13th – 19th October 2014.
