Points of Light Ambassadors

Lara Dingley, Y14, and Rachel Newhouse, Y13, were both successful in their applications to the highly competitive Points of Light Ambassadorship. In Northern Ireland only 6 Ambassadors were chosen to promote the Award, gain stories and submit those case studies to the Cabinet Office for consideration.  These young volunteers will be supported by the Cabinet Office. 

Points of Light UK has been developed in partnership with the hugely successful Points of Light programme in America, which was established by President George H W Bush, and has since recognised over 5,000 individuals and has the support of President Barack Obama

Road Safety Demonstration

Foyle College hosted a multiagency Road Safety demonstration as part of the Year 13 Personal Development scheme. An emotional, yet educational experience.

Representatives from the PSNI, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Youth Justice and a local funeral director’s gave poignant accounts of the impacts road collisions can have on victims and their families.

Public Speaking Success

Foyle College were delighted to host the Knights of St Columbanus Schools’ Public Speaking Competition last week.

Six impressive teams delivered assured speeches on the relevance of Christianity in our modern society.

Our winning team are eagerly anticipating the Final in 2016! 

GCSE English Site Visit

GCSE English pupils used their speaking and listening skills to interview Heron Group managers during a CEIAG visit to the new Foyle College site on the Limavady Road. Pupils interested in careers such as architecture, engineering, accountancy and journalism used this opportunity to recognise the benefits English Language and English Literature will have to their future employment opportunities.

Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Shoeboxes full of gifts will be shipped to needy children in Eastern Europe and Africathanks to the kind contributions from the pupils and parents of Foyle College. Foyle College have filled 160 shoeboxes, all packed with toys, toiletries, and fun educational items.

Schools Cross Country

The Foyle College Cross Country team achieved great results at the Local Schools Cross Country Event in Oakgrove College on November 17th. Well done to everyone that took part.  All competitors from Foyle finished their races and got a race time.A special mention to the following pupils who received a medal:

Anti Bullying Winning Video

This year we were delighted that 127 KS3 pupils recognised the importance of tackling bullying and submitted entries for the NIABF competition ‘What bullying means to me’; we are even happier that a short animation by Mark and Tom McLaughlin of Year 9 has been awarded top prize in the movie section and the boys winning entry, will be used in school all across Northern Ireland.
