National ICT Day

A national event to encourage more 15-18 year olds to study technology related degrees will return to Londonderry this April, delivered by the Tech Partnership in conjunction with the Department for Employment and Learning, Invest NI, Momentum and Sentinus.

Up to 400 post primary students are set to attend the National ICT Day, held in Millennium Forum to learn about the exciting career opportunities offered by Northern Ireland’s technology sector. The event is part of the highly successful Bring IT On campaign, which focuses on giving young people an insight into Northern Ireland’s fastest growing and most dynamic sector.

Under 18 football team

Congratulations to the Under 18 football team who have made it through to the final of the Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Competition.  They defeated Edmund Rice College 2-1 in a closely contested semi-final played at Moyola Park.  Foyle trailed 1-0 with only a few minutes to go, but Jack McNeill (right of picture) managed to grab an equaliser to take the fixture to extra-time.

The winning goal came from  a through ball from Alex McDonnell, with Sam Hughes (also pictured) rounding the keeper to score.  The final is due to be played after Easter at Ballymena Showgrounds – further details to follow.

Ski Trip 2015

Foyle College have just recently returned from another very successful ski trip.  This year’s trip proved to be immensely popular, with the school taking a record 86 pupils from Year 9.  We were based in the high altitude resort of Les Menuires between Saturday 28th February and Saturday 7th March.  The accommodation was excellent with the ClubHotel Piolet having direct access to the slopes.

Les Menuires has superb skiing for all abilities and we were lucky that the weather during the week provided an ideal mix of sunshine and snow.  Although the vast majority of pupils had never skied before, they made tremendous progress – by the fourth day, some of the groups were comfortably going down red runs.

The resort also had many fantastic après-ski activities – bum boarding, tobogganing, Speed Mountain, swimming – which added to the enjoyment of the trip.   Staff and pupils would like to thank all of the SkiBound staff who helped make the trip so memorable.  The school will soon be launching the 2016 trip for current Year 8 pupils – details of the Presentation Evening will be forwarded to parents shortly.
