Science Challenge

No photo description available.

Our weekly Doddle ‘Science Challenge’ quizzes continue for Year 8-10 pupils. We are encouraging pupils to complete quizzes each week to review their learning and winners will be posted on our Facebook page each week.

Excitingly, week 5’s quizzes are now available, and the pupil with the best average scores for weeks 1-5 quizzes, submitted before 12noon on Friday, will receive an Easter Egg in the post!

Also, another practical way for pupils to extend their interest and learning in Science at home has been highlighted by the BA Crest Award Science Scheme: www.crestawards.org The vast majority of experiments may be carried out using materials already available in the house and pupils can achieve a nationally recognised award for their efforts!

World Book Day

Happy World Book Day from Foyle College!  This year, each Year 8 pupil created a character mask, depicting a fiction character on the mask side and a review of their chosen novel on the inside.  A special well done to Darwyn, Jack and Jessica, whose masks were selected as winners!

Blood Brothers

It is safe to say our Year 12s loved ‘Blood Brothers’ at Millennium Forum Theatre & Conference Centre.  Thank you to Mags from Education at the Forum for arranging an invaluable Q&A with the cast afterwards; Conaill Long and Nathan Fraser were fantastic interviewers!  We have no doubt that the live production will have proved hugely beneficial to both our GCSE Drama and English Literature students.

Allied Healthcare Careers Event

We had a busy day in school today as we hosted the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s Allied Healthcare Careers Event.  We welcomed pupils from schools across the North West to find out more about careers within the NHS.  Our thanks to Anne Love, Volunteer Manager for the WHSCT, and all the health professionals who so willingly gave up their time to provide this amazing opportunity for our students.

Environmental Club Culmore

Well done to our Environmental Club members, who selflessly gave their time on Sunday morning to continue their efforts at Culmore Point.  As you can see, our members made huge progress and continue to make positive contributions within our local communities.  Thank you to The Magnet Bar for supporting our members’ efforts today; community spirit at its best!

Environmental Club BBC Radio Foyle

Members of our dedicated Environmental Club were at BBC Radio Foyle yesterday afternoon to speak on the Mark Patterson Show about their recent beach cleaning operations and WW1 Training Trench Excavation at Magilligan.

WW1 Training, Magilligan

Students from across all three key stages accompanied Dr Heather Montgomery and her team from Queen's University Belfast at Magilligan earlier today.

Together, they were looking for WW1 training trenches, in a project supported by MOD and CCGHT.  Already, the team have uncovered bullets, magazine cartridges and glass evidence of sand bagging.

The project is titled ‘WW1 Training, Magilligan’ and its overall aim is to compare the trench development with Northern France.  Thank you to Dr Andrew Bratton for contacting us, and involving us in such a worthwhile activity.

Well done to all involved!

Investors in Mental Health

We are both privileged and proud to have received an Aware ‘Investors in Mental Health’ award during the charity’s first Investors in Mental Health Ceremony at the Titanic Exhibition Centre today.

The award provides recognition for our significant contributions towards the promotion of positive mental health and well-being within our school community.

Google’s Digital Marketing Internship

Congratulations to Lewis, Year 14, who has progressed to the final stage of Google’s Digital Marketing Internship in London!  To date, Lewis has successfully progressed through three stages of the recruitment process. We wish Lewis every success as he travels to London for his upcoming interview.
