This is Foyle College's Mental Health Awareness Week which has been organised by the Sixth Form Health Committee. We have a range of events taking place all week. The most significant is our 'Cycle to Break the Cycle', where we have been raising awareness of the charity, 'AWARE NI' and its role in supporting persons who are affected by poor mental health, and are coping with Depression and Bipolar disorder.
Members of pupils and staff are cycling from Monday to Friday, during school hours to raise funds for this worthwhile charity.
Our itinerary includes: PIPS training for pupils on 'Healthy Minds' and 'Resilience', and 'Prevention of Suicide and Self-Harm' for parents, programmes from AWARE and ZEST, Healthy Eating workshops and 'Friday Feeling' where we will have music played across the school at intervals.
We wish to promote good mental health. Our aim is to provide coping strategies for dealing with stress and instil resilience in every pupil at Foyle College.
Year 11 pupils engaged in their Resilience workshop on Tuesday with the PIPS team. They were working on developing their positive mental health skills, and learning how to Look-Listen-Link to help prevent self-harm and suicide. Parents, please join us for your workshop on Wednesday evening 29th at 6.30pm in senior Assembly Hall.
