On 22nd November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. At the U.S. Naval Base in Londonderry, where our school now stands, Frank Ekstrom raised the American flag as a mark of respect after the assassination.
Today Frank returned to raise the flag with the help of some of our Year 14 History students and members of the School Archive Team. It was an honour to welcome Frank to Foyle College today and to hear his recollections of his time in Londonderry.
“Another exciting Yr8 Science focus week at Foyle College! – Pupils had the opportunity to sign up to a wide range of science based activities with rat dissections, sports science, bug hunts and rocket making to name a few of the lunchtime workshops on offer alongside site visits to the Lough’s agency and ‘The Lycra Company’ at Maydown. The visit form ‘World of Owls’ with the ‘Amazing Animal roadshow’ was informative and enjoyed by both pupils and staff. Please click on the link below to see more photos of the week’s events.”
“A group of Yr10 pupils enjoyed the annual Seagate Science Conference at St Mary’s College last Friday. A range of interactive science based workshops were available to engage pupils with science skills relating them to locally based careers. Pupils enjoyed ‘Something Fishy’ looking in depth at fish are built to survive, finding out how firefighters in the NI Fire Service understand the science to control fires and consideration of ipods and floating trains to find out how magnetism is used in modern technology.”
