Thursday 31 January at Springtown when Royal Navy conducted a Stem based workshop to Yr10 pupils. This generated a greater understanding of the work carried out by the Navy and pupils had the opportunity to find out the science behind how gas turbine blades were designed for efficient fuel consumption alongside other tasks which promoted both their mathematical and communication skills.
Foyle chess players were made most welcome when they played against Lumen Christi College in a chess tournament on Wednesday 6th February. Although it was a close-fought competition, Foyle lost 9-8, with the last match ‘timing out’ during the Foyle player’s move.
Special mention must go to Gary McKinley, who won his match in ten moves, and also to Michael Hayden, who is instrumental in organising these events.
