Well done, Young Writers
Congratulations to Year 13 and 14 pupils Hollie, Lindsay, Sarah and Conall who participated in the HSBC/British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition 2018 at The Mac Theatre in Belfast on Tuesday 27th November. Although these pupils have only been learning Mandarin since the beginning of their Lower Sixth year, they performed very well against more experienced pupils from other schools in the north-west.
Thanks to the pupils and Honge for all their hard work and many hours of preparation over the past few weeks. Well done!
Students attending the Monster Confidence event in the Millennium forum to encourage girls into STEM Careers.
Foyle College students exploring their options in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths world of Careers. It was a great to have the opportunityto have mock interviews with volunteers from HR and recruitment backgrounds to learn valuable interview skills, speak to volunteers about their industry and have professional headshots taken for their online profiles.
The young women heard about STEM opportunities from a number of local employers and there were panellist discussions on career building in STEM subjects. The two Foyle girls were also picked to do a You tube video and conduct an interview BBC Radio Foyle Mark Patterson show.
Year 14 Interview Skills Day at Foyle College was a credit to the students and interviewers taking part. Interviewers from Seagate, Fujitsu, Western Trust HR department, Lisnagelvin, Primary School, Bank of Ireland, Grafton recruitment and many other industries conducted mock interviews to help prepare our students for life after Foyle College. Students befitted greatly from the knowledge and experience of the interviewers who were tailored to suit their specialist area.
In preparation for the mock interviews, Pat Jamison from Sentinus conducted a workshop to prepare students in "How to complete an application form" and "How to market yourself for an Interview". Each student participated in a one to one or group interview and were given written or verbal feedback.
Interviewers commented that Foyle Students were very well informed and prepared for the mock interviews. They acknowledged the wealth of activities that many students were involved in from Duke of Edinburgh, Volunteering and many sporting activities. These extra-curricular activities provided students with many experiences which highlighted their skills and qualities.
I personally would like to thank the Interviewers for giving up their time to assist our students in succeeding in applications and interviews for University, College or the World of Work.
