Derry Feis

Congratulations to the Foyle College pupils who successfully competed in the Derry Feis over Easter.

Lauren Holmes, Year 9, was awarded 3rd place in the KS3 Public Speaking Competition for her speech on Facebook. The audience were intrigued and amused by her depiction of social media.

Chloe McCarter, Year 8, came 2nd in the same competition. Her controversial speech questioned whether teachers should wear a uniform!

Both girls are to be commended for their hard work in the lead up to the competition. Well done!

Under 18 football team

Congratulations to the Under 18 football team who have made it through to the final of the Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Competition.  They defeated Edmund Rice College 2-1 in a closely contested semi-final played at Moyola Park.  Foyle trailed 1-0 with only a few minutes to go, but Jack McNeill (right of picture) managed to grab an equaliser to take the fixture to extra-time.

The winning goal came from  a through ball from Alex McDonnell, with Sam Hughes (also pictured) rounding the keeper to score.  The final is due to be played after Easter at Ballymena Showgrounds – further details to follow.

Digital Survey ILEX

ILEX, the urban regeneration company, in conjunction with Foyle Learning Community, is undertaking an online Digital Survey of school children between 11 and 18 years to determine the access pupils have to digital media. It’s important that all secondary schools in the Derry City Council area take part in this online survey.

Pupils from each participating school will be entered into a draw and one person from each participating school will win a Microsoft Surface Tablet & Keyboard. The survey closes on Friday 13th December 2013.
